Russell Westbrook layup vs Charlotte

The big headline coming out of Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook’s game against the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday may be the technical he got for accidentally hitting a referee in the head with the basketball, but the game was still a reminder that Westbrook can do amazingly positive things on the court as well. To whit, here’s him going coast-to-coast on four dribbles with just 4.7 seconds left in the first half, beating the buzzer with a layup:

Pretty good, there, Russell, pretty good. This was just one of his highlights on the evening, too; here’s another one, where he grabs his own rebound and drains it.

Westbrook had 33 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists on the night, too, getting close to yet another triple-double (even if he says he isn’t focused on those). He could have used a little more accuracy (he hit just 10 of 31 of his field-goal attempts), but this was still an impressive showing, and this highlight illustrates just how dangerous he can be every time he steps on the floor. Still, the Thunder lost to the Hornets for the first time in the last 12 games between the squads, so Westbrook’s highlights weren’t enough in the end.
