The San Antonio Spurs have had a brutal season under the legendary Gregg Popovich. They came into Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz with a 15-game losing streak. As many would predict, things did not get better for them against Utah.

The Spurs lost yet again on Saturday, falling to 14-47 on the year in a season that is likely to be the worst in Popovich’s terrific 26-year coaching career.

There is very clearly no identity to the Spurs team at the moment. It’s shocking to see an organization that has been known for the better part of the last two decades to be a well-coached discipline team under Popovich be such a disaster.

Popovich clearly understands that the Spurs are pretty much done in terms of meaningful basketball for the year, answering his post-game questions pretty nonchalantly. He did use some profanity in his press conference for those who are inclined to skip watching the full video below.

“We played really well in the first half. Get off my ***,” said Popovich. “Two great quarters, and then it didn’t go very well… But what else is new, you’ve seen it before.”1

While Popovich was able to joke about the team’s struggles after the game, many fans were not so generous on social media about their losing streak which was extended to 16 games.

It is also impossible to ignore the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft, which has generational talent such as French sensation Victor Wenbenyama at the top of the draft class. Many concluded that the Spurs are very clearly tanking to boost their odds in the draft lottery.
