This offseason has been a rollercoaster for San Antonio Spurs fans, with the organization deciding to trade star point guard Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks for three future first-round picks.
It is clear that San Antonio is looking towards a rebuild following this move, and it looks like 22-year-old forward Keldon Johnson will be a part of theat for the foreseeable future.
Reports have emerged that the Spurs have agreed to a four-year contract extension for $ 80 million to remain with the Spurs through the 2026-27 NBA season.

Johnson had the best year of his three-year career this past season, averaging 17 points per game along with 6.2 rebounds while shooting nearly 40 percent on three-point attempts.
On top of that, he gained some valuable experience when he played for the United States on the 2020 Olympic team.
Many don’t see him having superstar potential, but many around the NBA world see this as a great move for the Spurs to bring back a player like Johnson that continues to grow at a rapid pace.

I actually kind of like this deal for both sides. More people need to watch the Spurs because Keldon Johnson can play. https://t.co/lVeLlMpCVJ

Could be a fantastic deal in a few years if he continues to develop from deep + off the bounce. Would love to see him in a permanent role at the 3

San Antonio currently owns nine first-round draft picks in the next six years, so the Spurs can certainly become very interesting in the future considering how the organization has drafted in the past.
It will likely be a while until San Antonio is competing in the Western Conference. But bringing back a player of Johnson’s caliber is certainly a step in building a team that will thrive in the future.
