Steph Curry has won countless games for the Golden State Warriors through the years. He’s entitled to a boneheaded play now and then.

That moment came Sunday in Game 4 against the Sacramento Kings when Curry called a timeout with less than a minute to play and the Warriors up by five.

Problem: Golden State was out of timeouts. It immediately brought back memories of Michigan star Chris Webber’s ill-fated timeout in the 1993 NCAA Tournament Championship Game.

Malik Monk hit the resulting technical foul shot, and the Kings got possession, leading to a De’Aaron Fox three with 28 seconds remaining. The Kings had suddenly made it a one-point game, thanks to Curry’s brain cramp.

Curry had a chance to atone for his mistake, but missed a mid-range jumper, giving Sacramento the final possession and a chance to win. But Harrison Barnes missed a 3-pointer, and Golden State escaped with a 126-125 win to even the series at two apeice.

Curry scored 32 points, and thankfully for him, the win caused his gaffe to become a thing to laugh about instead of something for the lowlight reel

In the end, Curry’s mistake didn’t matter. Still, fans had fun with the play on Twitter. Yes, Webber’s name came up a few times.
