The Golden State Warriors missed the playoffs this season after losing to the Phoenix Suns in Friday’s Play-In game. After a frustrating stretch of seasons, there’s speculation that, after four championships with the franchise, head coach Steve Kerr may be moving on.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Kerr said after the game. “I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”
“If [my time is done], then I will be nothing but grateful for the most amazing opportunity any person could have to coach this franchise in front of our fans and to coach Steph Curry, [Draymond Green], the whole group,” he added. “It may still go on. It may not. I don’t know at this point. But we all need to step away a little bit and then reconvene.”
Steve Kerr said he will take a week or two to think about his future and discuss it with Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy.
He acknowledged there is an “expiration date” on the job and it’s possible new blood is needed. Said he may return or may not. Doesn’t know yet.

Fans reacted to Kerr potentially leaving Golden State on social media.
“Something about being loyal 2 your team winning the chip & the Dubs did that & more for me. It was a joy 2 watch them win 4Cs & 6 WCs titles within 8 yrs. That was the team I became loyal to. Just like when Kareem & Magic played – it was magic watching them. Much respect to Kerr,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Will always love Steve. Loved him when he was a commenter (too young to see his playing days) and when he was a coach. Will be sad to see the day he goes,” another fan added.
“If he leaves I will def shed a thug tear . I d bashed him many times but he’s a GREAT coach,” someone else wrote.
If this is it for Kerr and the Warriors, it was one of the greatest runs in NBA history.
