While the Memphis Grizzlies figure out what is going to happen with Ja Morant and when their superstar will return from his time away from the team, some of the veteran players are taking it upon themselves to move things in the right direction.
Before Morant left the team following his latest ill-advised incident involving a firearm, the Grizzlies found themselves dealing with a bit of a dilemma. While their home record has been stellar this season at 26-5, they’re 12-20 on the road, something that is holding them back from being a true contender for the NBA Finals.
Apparently, this was an issue addressed in a recent players-only meeting by veteran Steven Adams, and according to Shams Charainia, it was known that Morant was the person many felt was at the center of the issue.

“I’m told that there was a players-only meeting recently where Steven Adams, their veteran center, he spoke out about how the team needs to show better discipline on the road,” said Charaina. “How they need to stay away from going out when they’re on the road. This team is 12-20 on the road this year. They’re stellar at home but that’s a poor road record for them.
“And I’m told those in the room when Steve Adams spoke out, they knew exactly who he was directing this to. It was no one other than Ja Morant. And clearly, Ja Morant still went out in the early hours of Saturday. That video was posted with the gun and there’s questions.”
It’ll be interesting to see what else trickles out regarding what was happening behind closed doors with the Grizzlies before the Morant situation boiled over.
