Missing a wide-open game winning shot can be a total confidence killer. That’s especially the case when it comes in the NBA playoffs and you were mere feet away from the hoop itself.

Such is the case for Oklahoma City Thunder big man Steven Adams, who got a rebound on a miss with a second left, and couldn’t get the ball out of his hand before the clock expired. It led to the Dallas Mavericks tying up the series at 1-1 with an 85-84 victory on Monday night.

It’s the ultimate case of “what if” for an NBA player, but for Adams he apparently just plans on letting that missed opportunity go “like an ex-girlfriend.”

Just try to let it go, treat it like an ex-girlfriend,” Adams told Royce Young of ESPN. “Try to get rid of her. You know honestly, it’s just one of those things where I know there’s plenty more opportunities. That’s not why we lost the game, there are so many other things before that that happened.”

Adams has a point, especially when your seven-time All-Star named Kevin Durant misses a whopping 26 field goal attempts and turns the ball over seven times by himself.

OKC simply can’t win when Durant isn’t firing on all cylinders, and it has always been that way.

Adams and the Thunder will get a chance to move on quickly, as game three of their first round playoff series happens on Thursday evening.
