Hours before the trade deadline, the NBA got turned on its head with the massive news that the Brooklyn Nets traded Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns. Among the players headed to Brooklyn Nets is Mikal Bridges, whose reaction to the trade mirrored a lot of other people’s.

Bridges was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 but was immediately traded to the Suns and has played in Phoenix for his entire career. But while the “Farewell, Phoenix; hello, Brooklyn posts” may be forthcoming, his initial reaction to being part of the Durant trade was a simple “Omygod lol” on Twitter.

The NBA world on Twitter very much understood where Bridges was coming from.

Bridges earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors during the 2021-22 season and is having perhaps his best offensive season this year. Bridges has averaged 17.2 points and 3.6 assists per game, both career highs. He’s also shooting 46.3% from the field, 38.7% on threes, and 89.7% on free throws.

Additionally, Bridges has been durable for the Suns over the last three years, playing and starting in every game since the start of the 2020-21 season. He’s signed for three more seasons after this one and is slated to make $21.7 million in 2023-24, $23.3 million in 2024-25, and $24.9 million in 2025-26.
