Earlier in the week, the NBA sent a memo to teams telling them to stop having social media “fights” with other teams and players because it somehow damaged the brand of the NBA. Most people love that aspect of the NBA’s social media presence except the actual league office itself.

But because social media teams move much faster than any stooge in New York can react, this happened:

That exchange actually took place Friday night when the Hawks played the Kings in Sacramento, but the subtlety of the trolling here is exquisite. Since teams can’t tweet “hateful” things back and forth anymore, they decided to tweet nice things at each other instead. How sweet!

At first, the Hawks said the new Golden 1 Center in Sacramento is “simply gorgeous”, to which the Kings responded by saying Philips Arena is great too; leaving special praise for the Hawks amazing organist, Sir Foster. Then, the Kings praised the Hawks “volt” green uniforms, which they called lime green. Then, this happened:

And when the Kings came back to beat the Hawks, this happened:

But the trolling didn’t quite stop there. NHL teams had no such mandate on social media, so the really savvy teams decided to poke fun at this whole situation:

Look at that, two professional teams engaged in some competitive tweeting, and the world didn’t end.
