The New Orleans Pelicans are, once again, heading for another disappointing season and one fan has had enough. He’s so perturbed, he handcuffed himself to the Smoothie King Center and won’t leave until Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry is fired.

Here’s the sad picture. The protester is wearing an Anthony Davis jersey, a pair of shades and a bandana. I’m going to bet he listens to The Dave Matthews Band.

It’s an odd choice to picket against Gentry. The 7-16 Pelicans, like last season, have been devastated by injuries. When healthy, the team doesn’t have enough talent around Anthony Davis to compete for the West. Gentry is culpable, as his rotations and play-calling haven’t been particularly creative, but the blame should be on general manager Dell Demps. Demps has given Gentry barely anything to work with other than Davis. Could someone really step in and make the Pelicans a playoff team? Gregg Popovich ain’t walking through that door.

Gentry isn’t a good coach. Heck, I’m not even sure he’s above the coaching Mendoza-line. But, to blame him for what’s unfolded with the Pelicans is straight-up nonsense. This guy, if he’s actually protesting, is wasting his own time. Putting that much energy into hoping something that shouldn’t happen, happens, is about as hilarious as the Pelicans on the court. As the Twitter user above suggests, leave him there. He’s not going to keep this up and it’s a telling sign that nobody has apparently joined him in protest.
