When an NBA superstar leaves his franchise behind in free agency there are two things that are certain to follow: A personal, introspective letter explaining the terribly difficult decision to leave his former team behind, and fans of that same team burning his jersey in effigy.

It happened to LeBron James, it happened to Kevin Durant, and now it is happening to Dwyane Wade.

You would think fans would have learned their lesson by now when it comes to a jersey burning, but there is something about lighting things on fire in anger that just seems to overpower a certain segment of fanbases. Never mind the three championships and the countless moments of joy Wade brought to Miami Heat fans in his 13 seasons with the club, or the fact the team might be better off not overpaying a shooting guard who is approaching 35 and near the end of his career. These “fans” are simply too upset their hero was tired of being lowballed by management and unwilling to take yet another undeserved pay cut to be bothered with rational thought.

Why show gratitude to the greatest player in franchise history, when you can burn his jersey in effigy instead? After all, Wade is a dirty trader, dammit.
