Heading into the 2024 NBA Draft, there were many discussions about the draft class potentially being one of the weaker classes in recent memory. The performance of Alex Sarr on Tuesday made that argument even stronger. top draft pick Alex Sarr made that argument even stronger. Sarr, who the Washington Wizards selected No. 2 overall, had a rough performance in his third Summer League game.

Sarr came into the game struggling with efficiency in his first two Summer League outings, shooting just 30.7% from the floor in those games.

Tuesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers was more of the same but in a much more concerning way. Sarr took 17 shots from the field on the night, including seven three-point attempts, also reaching the free-throw line once. He was not able to score a single point, missing every single shot on the night.

Perhaps the only silver lining in this outing for Sarr was his abilities as a defender, which have shined through in the Summer League thus far even when his shot isn’t falling. The French big man was able to block three shots and record one steal.

A few bad games aren’t the end of the world for Sarr. Plenty of players who have struggled in the Summer League have gone on to have great NBA careers.

However, these kinds of struggles obviously aren’t the greatest sign of Sarr’s potential as a scorer in the future. Many fans have already made their minds up about Sarr after this brutal performance, proclaiming him to be a bust on social media.

Sarr’s next chance to prove his doubters wrong will come on Thursday when the Wizards take on the Sacramento Kings.
