NBA on NBC

The NBA media rights deal will be one of sports media’s biggest stories this summer. To that end, so will the potential return of the NBA on NBC. On Tuesday, news trickled out that may have excited some. Or many!

On The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, some fascinating news emerged. According to the man John Tesh himself, NBC has reached out to him about using the iconic “Roundball Rock” theme.

When Awful Announcing brought this to the surface, there were plenty ready to react.

Over 50,000 people have already interacted with this news story, which was posted merely an hour ago. So, you can already tell that there are a litany of people ready to erupt about this news. The 90s NBA on NBC run clearly meant a lot to a lot of people, and nostalgia is powerful sometimes, so the outpouring isn’t surprising.

Tesh indicated that while NBC looked into it, there are reportedly plans to re-license it, and that they are likely to re-record a new version of it. How that version goes… well, Godspeed and all, as everyone has had their hearts set on that song for a while.

Like many years prior, it will be used at the Olympics apparently. So, something for everyone to look forward to. There were plenty who reacted to the news, as the sports world was buzzing.
