The college basketball transfer portal has been one of the biggest talking points in the sport this offseason, with many notable players announcing their plans for a change of scenery next season. Thursday brought us another big-time college basketball player announcing his intention to enter the portal.
Detroit Mercy star point guard Antoine Davis posted a message on social media thanking fans of the program for the support and also announcing that he will be entering the transfer portal.
“Dear Titan Fam. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal,” wrote Davis. “I will always remember the University of Detroit Mercy and what it has done for me. I wouldn’t be in this position without the University giving me the opportunity as a student-athlete.
“I was honored to be a Titan and play in the Horizon League against great players and coaches, and I loved every second of being coached by my dad and brother. I also want to thank our fans. I have loved everything Detroit Mercy has provided me from basketball to my education. I will always be a Titan.”

This news of him entering the portal has many college basketball fans hoping that he will choose their favorite school to finish the rest of his career.

A straight bucket-getter is in the portal. Waters won't get deep quickly. They'll start at the deep end. https://t.co/MImKOy0vIL

Davis ranked third last season in all of Division 1 basketball in scoring and currently sits at 22nd in the history of college basketball for total points.
Even though he has done it at a mid-major program, Davis may be the best player to enter the transfer portal to date given his proven track record of scoring. He will be a huge target for many top college basketball programs going forward.
