Gus Malzahn

Things aren’t going well for Auburn right now. The Tigers are 1-2, with tough home losses to both Clemson and Texas A&M and very little chance of winning the SEC West, let alone bettering bitter rivals Alabama. So one Auburn fan decided to take matters into his own hands: by starting a GoFundMe to pay Malzahn’s massive buyout.

Thomas Downing of Anniston, Alabama writes the following

I am Thomas Downing and I have suffered through underperforming, dissappointing season after dissappointing [sic] season under Gus Malzahn . It’s time for a change.

Gus Malzahn is a hardheaded, stubborn, unimaginative coach. He has taken a remarkably talented team and has been out-coached, out-schemed, and he’s underdeveloped players, generally leading the team to mediocrity over and over again.

Apparently our flagship university can’t afford to buy him out of his contract, so I figured if we raised the money then they wouldn’t have any excuse as to why we can’t fire him.

Now even Downing in his “optimism” knows the GoFundMe probably won’t do much (although he probably expected at least a few donations by now), so in the incredibly likely case the GoFundMe doesn’t meet its $9 million goal, he’ll donate whatever is raised to Toys for Tots.

Downing, who is a small time actor/comedian, figured it would be funny to start the GoFundMe, though he’s pretty serious about wanting Gus Malzahn to get a pink slip.

GoFundMe accounts are good for ridiculous things that are usually pretty funny, and this is one of them.
