The Austin Peay Governors and Central Arkansas Bears are kicking off the 2020 college football season on Saturday night in Montgomery, AL, and the game quickly featured two very interesting plays.

On the first play from scrimmage, Austin Peay running CJ Evans Jr. took a carry 75 yards for a touchdown.

That’s a heck of a way for Evans, a freshman, to start his college football career (and the college football season).

But a few minutes later, Austin Peay had a very rough moment. The Governors were at the 50-yard line and set to punt, but the snap went well over the head of punter Cole Deeds. He ran back to pick up the ball at the 15-yard line, before getting off a punt that went out of bounds at the 38. The punt turned into a loss of 12 yards for Austin Peay.

The game featured an exciting finish, with Central Arkansas scoring a touchdown in the final minute to come out on top 24-17. The highlight of that drive was a 29-yard pass from Breylin Smith to Tyler Hudson on 3rd-and-4 at the Austin Peay 39-yard line.

Ah, it’s good to have football back, even at the FCS level.
