The Dayton Flyers and UMass Minutemen played a memorable baseball game on Thursday. Fortunately for Dayton, they were not on the wrong side of a ridiculously lopsided score.
The Flyers needed a win to enter the 2023 Atlantic-10 baseball tournament. Boy, did they ever romp the Minutemen. By the time the final out was made, Dayton had run it up and then some against UMass. The Flyers celebrated a whopping 32-14 victory over the Minutemen on Thursday evening.
The Flyers posted the graphic, which read the eye-popping, absurd score. They took pride and celebrated the victory. Meanwhile, the Minutemen just kind of played it off.

Nobody would have blamed UMass if they just stopped tweeting. And to be fair, they went about an hour and fifteen minutes without tweeting anything after they cut the lead to 31-14 on a grand slam.

High-scoring games in college baseball aren’t rare by any means, but this one is particularly absurd. When you cross the 20-run threshold, that’s one thing. The 30-run threshold!? That’s just out of hand.
The sports world reacted to the absurd score and had a lot to say about it.
“Excuse me???” A10 Talk said in shock.

The Midtown Madness podcast put it into perspective. “Scoring 34 runs against a team tied for last…..giving up 14 runs to a team tied for last.”

This could’ve been a UMass Football game.
You don’t know. https://t.co/ta7WLneXOD

Wow! Dayton dismantles UMass 32-14, setting a new program-record for runs scored in a single game. 12 different Flyers recorded at least one hit and 11 different drove in at least one run.
Funny enough, UMass *football* scored 14 or more points in just 3 games this season. https://t.co/e0hf7U7xCy
