Bret Bielema once lived and breathed all things Big Ten — from his days as a player for the Iowa Hawkeyes to his pinnacle as a head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers. Few flew the Big Ten banner higher and prouder than Bielema did.

Heck, the guy even has a bad Hawkeye logo tattoo on a calf to prove his love for the team he once played and coaches for.

That all ended when he shocked most of the college football world by leaving the Badgers at their height for the land of the once-hated SEC. He took the Arkansas Razorbacks job in 2012 and ever since then, has been all about the SEC.

However, the once B1G-proud Bielema appears to be preparing for a reunion of sorts with his once favorite conference. According to his talk with ESPN’s Championship Drive podcast, Bielema indicated he is looking to hook up with Big Ten coaches should the SEC lift its ban on coaches participating as guests in satellite camps.

That may happen sooner than later, as the NCAA is set to vote on a ban on coaching at satellite camps brought by the SEC. If it fails, the conference is set to lift its own ban, hoping to not put its coaches in an even worse scenario on the recruiting trail.

Bielema was actually shocked to see how restrictive the SEC was on coaches when he first got to the league.

“When I first got here, I was amazed at the restrictions the SEC puts on ourselves. Not being able to go camps, not being able to go to clinics, not being able to have your staff be present at in-state clinics that are your home base,” Bielema said.

Should the ban be lifted, its pretty clear what the plan will be for Bielema and his Arkansas Razorbacks “brand.”

“If these satellite camps go through, I’ve been in discussion with two Big Ten teams. I’ve been in discussion with teams in Florida and Texas, as well as the Cowboys. If this thing goes through, we’re going to do an exclusive camp right there with the Cowboys unique to us that no one else in the SEC will be able to do. That’s going to be a huge advantage.

“I’m talking about going east with a Big Ten team I’ve got a relationship with. If that pans out, some really good things could open the door.”

A deal with the Cowboys would certainly be one-of-a-kind, as the team owner, Jerry Jones, is a Razorback alum and certainly wouldn’t be doing the same deal with other rivals in the SEC.

What would be really interesting is to see which of the Big Ten teams he is speaking with. Simple guesses would include Iowa, who would love to bring a bigger presence to the East Coast, and Wisconsin, where his former offensive coordinator, Paul Chryst, is head coach now.

The latter would certainly set off some intriguing moments given how Bielema left Madison and the wounds that are still there to this day. However, it could also be a healing moment if done right.

Again, this all hinges on a vote going against the conference he currently coaches in and plenty of other leagues seem to believe in satellite camps.
