A huge shake-up in the college football coaching landscape came on Monday night with news that Brian Kelly is leaving Notre Dame to become the head coach at LSU.

The news reportedly came as a complete shock to people around the Notre Dame program, and Kelly “ghosted everyone at Notre Dame” as the news broke.

Well, a couple hours later, Kelly finally informed Notre Dame players that he’s indeed leaving the program. And rather than meet face to face with the players to announce the news, Kelly went the text message route.

Now, Kelly did say that he didn’t intend for the players to have to find out via reports and his text, and he told them that there will be a team meeting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning in which he will discuss this in person.

“Men…Let me first apologize for the late night text and, more importantly, for not being able to share the news with you in person that I will be leaving Notre Dame. I am flying back to South Bend tonight to be able to meet with you in the morning but the news broke late today and I am sorry you found out through social media or news reports. I will have more to share when we meet tomorrow at 7 a.m. but for now, just know that my love for you is limitless and I am so proud of all that you have accomplished. Our program is elite because of your hard work and commitment and I know that will continue. I will share more in the morning when we meet. Again, my sincere apologies for not being able to be the one to share the news directly with you. Coach Kelly”

Update: Kelly met with the Notre Dame team for 11 minutes on Tuesday morning.

Update II: Well, apparently it was a meeting that “lasted less than two minutes” and he didn’t take questions.

Here’s a sampling of the reaction to Kelly’s text:
