By now you’ve heard countless “Get out and vote, it’s your civic duty,” messages. The Coastal Carolina football coaching staff is taking that message to the extreme Tuesday for the presidential election.

That’s because head coach Joe Moglia is determined to make sure every single one of his players exercises his right to vote. He’s gone and gotten a bus to take his players to the poling place together as a team.

“Every one of our guys is going to vote Tuesday, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of,” Moglia said, via MrytleBeachOnline.com. “The service academies do that. There’s not going to be one other university football team in the nation that’s going to do that, and you know every one of them probably should do that.”

Some players have chosen to vote via absentee ballot either in their home state or just because they wanted to vote early. Yet, all players will go to the polls in a show of support for those who will cast their ballot today.

“Even though some players have voted early, they will go to the polls Tuesday just to support their teammates,” Moglia said. “The right to vote is one of the cornerstones of this great democracy and is a privilege no one should take for granted.”

This move shouldn’t be that surprising, as Moglia has long had a message about life outside of football being just as important as what happens on the field. He takes 30 minutes of every Thursday practice to put on a “Life After Football” session, helping to prepare his players for life once their careers likely end following college football.

It’s such an amazing lesson in civics and in understanding that voting, no matter your position on issues or candidates at the top still matters. Respect to Moglia for putting his players’ lives off the field on equal footing to what they do on it.

Hopefully that will also help this team make its big transition to FBS football and Sun Belt Conference membership starting next season.
