Another massive upset was scored in the world of college softball on Thursday.

The 16th-ranked Baylor Bears fell victim to a stingy and fearless Boston University Terriers team. BU beat the other BU 2-0 in what was a complete-game shutout.

It was a historic upset for the Terriers. BU hadn’t defeated a team from the Big 12 Conference since 2018. They stunningly took down top-ranked Oklahoma then, and it’s the first time they’ve shut a Power 5 program out outside of the state of Massachusetts since 2020. This all according to the BU Softball Twitter account, which posted the historic fact.

Freshman pitcher Kasey Ricard stole the show in the 2-0 upset win. Ricard dazzled and perplexed Bear hitters all afternoon. She struck out 10 Bears and went the distance in the complete-game shutout. She only allowed one free pass to Baylor as well.

This is the latest in a string of big upsets across college softball. Recently, the Central Arkansas Bears defeated in-state rival Arkansas for their biggest upset ever by ranking. The Razorbacks ranked sixth at the time of the massive defeat.

The softball world buzzed over the big upset after it went down Thursday night.

The Patriot League responded to a celebratory tweet on the upset win.

WBZ anchor Dan Roche said the win was “so great!”

The head strength and conditioning coach at BU, Glenn Harris, also congratulated the Terriers!

BU alum and New York Post digital contributor Andrew Battifarano called it a “heck of a win for the superior BU.”
