Softball Youngstown State

The Youngstown State softball team found themselves in big trouble during Tuesday’s college softball doubleheader against Robert Morris.

However, they were able to magically escape thanks to a pretty amazing triple-play that has now gone viral.

With the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the first, Robert Morris had the chance to take a commanding lead early. However, that’s when Youngstown State’s Sara Fessler caught a line drive right behind first base before tagging the runner there out and then throwing to second base before that runner could return.

The wild play was shared on Twitter by YSU broadcaster Anthony Romo.

Romo smartly tagged SportsCenter in the tweet and it caught someone’s eye. The ESPN show put it at No. 6 on their list of Top 10 Plays on Tuesday night.

The news got even better for Fessler in the bottom of the first as she hit a solo home run. Unfortunately, the Penguins weren’t able to replicate that fielding success later in the game and ended up losing the game 11-3 to the Colonials.

In better news, they were able to win the day’s previous game 6-5 and Fessler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in that one. So all in all, a pretty solid day for the junior.
