The Dayton Flyers men’s basketball team defeated the Davidson Wildcats, 68-61, on Tuesday night.

But you wouldn’t know it by the tone of Flyers head coach Anthony Grant in his postgame press conference.

Grant took aim at angry gamblers who have targeted his players throughout the season due to what they saw as unacceptable results on the season for a team that’s currently 3-12.

“There are some laws that have recently been enacted, that to me, it could really change the landscape of what college sports is all about,” Grant said, according to ohbets.com. “And when we have people that make it about themselves and attack kids because of their own agenda, it sickens me.”

Grant then paused for dramatic effect.

“They have families,” Grant went on to say. “They don’t deserve that. Mental health is real.”

While Grant didn’t specifically reference hate targeted at his players by angry gamblers, the Dayton Daily News previously reported on exactly that situation, which Grant also spoke on.

Ohio legalized sports betting on Jan. 1st, 2023. The Flyers are next in action on the road on Jan. 21st when they face the George Washington Colonels. Oddsmakers have yet to set a line for that Atlantic 10 Conference showdown.
