Dayton plane

The 2016 United States Presidential election took place a week ago today. Hillary Clinton didn’t win the state of Ohio (surprisingly) or Alabama (not surprisingly), but her campaign plane still made stops there this week.

The Dayton Flyers men’s basketball team visited the University of Alabama today for a game against the Crimson Tide. To get to Tuscaloosa the Flyers flew on Hillary Clinton’s plane.

Awkward.

According to the Dayton Daily News, Dayton doesn’t choose what plane it uses when it charters to games. As a result, it didn’t know it would be flying on Clinton’s plane until they arrived at the airport. In short, the charter broker UD works with simply gave them the plane they had available through an approved company.

A UD spokesman told the Dayton Daily News it had flown on professional sports team’s planes before, but a political campaign plane was new to them.

A lot of people have made good points about how weird this story is. Did the plane ever even land in Alabama during Clinton’s campaign? She did lose the state 63% to 35%. How many Flyers players or staffers voted for Clinton? It’s a good question to ask. Also, what do you think people in Alabama thought when they saw that plane land? It’s not like Clinton would move to Alabama of all places after losing…

Dayton fared better in Alabama than Clinton did – the Flyers walked away with a 77-72 victory.
