New Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders must go back on a major promise.

“Never,” Sanders responded in 2017 when asked if he would ever return to Nike, the company that helped turn his persona into what it is today.

That statement, however, was before Sanders became the next head coach of the Buffaloes. The Buffs have been a Nike program for the last 10 years. So, Sanders is contractually obligated to wear Nike apparel when acting in an official capacity as head coach.

“Coach agrees that at all times while he is acting in his official capacity as head football coach (including coaching, recruiting, fundraising, appearing on television or radio as the head coach, etc.,) he will wear NIKE-University co-branded products, as appropriate” Sanders’ contract reads, as revealed by USA Today.

Sanders has already been spotted in Nike gear, too.

As USA TODAY notes, in one behind-the-scenes video posted on YouTube Jan. 11, “Sanders was shown trying on Nike shoes at CU to help his ailing feet. Sanders said then it was the first time he had worn Nikes in ‘at least 15 years.'”

“I feel like I’m cheating on somebody,” Sanders said on Thee Pregame Show.

The new-look Buffaloes, led by new coach Deion Sanders, kick off their 2023 season on Sept. 2nd against the TCU Horned Frogs in Texas.
