Desmond Howard

Two weeks into the 2022 college football season, one thing is clear: Desmond Howard’s College Football Playoffs prediction was pretty terrible.

The College GameDay analyst shocked college football fans in the first week of the season when he revealed his wild prediction for the four playoff teams, picking the Texas A&M Aggies, the Pittsburgh Panthers, the Baylor Bears, and his Michigan Wolverines to make the field.

This past weekend, three of Desmond’s four playoff picks crumbled. Texas A&M was shocked at home by Appalachian State, Tennessee bested Pittsburgh in overtime, and Baylor dropped their game to BYU in double OT. Only Michigan remains on track with a 2-0 record, though they haven’t played anyone yet and have a fairly soft schedule ahead of them until they run into the better Big Ten teams.

While there’s certainly a lot of season ahead, the margin for schools like Pitt and Baylor to make the CFP is already razor-thin. Any loss has the potential to knock them out of consideration. It was already pretty unlikely that two of these teams would have a legitimate shot at the CFP, let alone all four, but the fact that it appears most of them are already DOA is pretty funny.

Naturally, the college football world had some fun with Howard, who has a history of saying some pretty dumb things, to begin with.

At least there’s still that Michigan pick. For now.
