United States President Donald Trump is a noted sports fan as he is regularly seen attending UFC fights, college football games, and NASCAR events throughout the country. He also owns several prestigious golf courses across the world, which have hosted high-profile tournaments. Given his affinity for sports, it should come as no surprise that he welcomed the LSU Tigers to the White House on Tuesday to celebrate their national championship.
The LSU Tigers baseball team won its eighth national title this year, sweeping Coastal Carolina in the finals to finish the season with a 53-15 record. To celebrate the national championship, Trump made a major move for the team as he invited them to the White House on Monday.
In fact, it wasn’t just the Tigers that Trump honored. He also welcomed LSU-Shreveport, which won a historic national title at the NAIA level. The LSUS Pilots are the first undefeated college baseball team in history, finishing the season with a 59-0 record.
“Louisiana is a special state, and it’s an honor to celebrate two college baseball national champions from that great state,” Trump said during the Oct. 20 event via the Shreveport Times. “Both teams brought incredible pride, grit and glory to their schools and their state, and they are bringing that same Louisiana spirit to a place called the White House.
“It’s rare for two teams from one state to be in one room, but these are incredible teams who had amazing seasons.”
At one point, Trump even joked that he thinks the two teams should play each other.
Trump even jokingly suggested the two teams play each other: “I want these two teams to play,” Trump said. “You want to do it? We’ll do it.”
It was obviously a major move from Trump to honor the Tigers and the Pilots.
