While most of the college basketball world is fixated on tournaments such as the Maui Invitational, they all had to make a quick pivot to Fort Wayne, Indiana, of all places.

That is where college basketball chaos took place on Tuesday. With No. 3 Indiana making the surprising and strange trip to Fort Wayne, the Mastodons pulled off a big-time upset in defeating the highly-ranked Hoosiers. With such an upset occurring in November of all times, there was quite a bit of hysteria.

Let’s look at the final play first:

This upset looks straight out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament. But alas, it happened the week of Thanksgiving on Big Ten Network. This didn’t slow down any madness from elderly and bleach-drinking Fort Wayne fans.

Whoa, buddy. That’s probably a tad extreme. There’s a lot of season to go. But after looking at the context, it’s not so crazy. It’s Fort Wayne’s first win against an AP Top 25 team in school history. It’s also a rarity for a team of the Hoosiers’ caliber to go to a mid-major school like that. Jon Coffman, the Mastodons coach, gave credit to Indiana coach Tom Crean.

It definitely is a bad loss for Indiana, but there is a lot of time to go. Road games at Rutgers probably won’t be as daunting as the crowd in Fort Wayne. The Hoosiers have a lot of time to adjust, but with Tom Crean this team could respond with a Sweet Sixteen berth or an under .500 season.
