Frank Beamer was the head coach of the Virginia Tech football team for 28 years from 1987 to 2015. Over his career, Beamer went to 22 bowl games and won four ACC Championships. In his first year off the job however, he won’t be traveling with the team for a matchup with Notre Dame.

Instead of watching his Hokies in South Bend take on the Fighting Irish, Beamer will instead attend the Miss Virginia Pageant.

Oh my.

The thing is, he isn’t judging the beauty pageant. Instead, the former Virginia Tech Head Coach is a wait for it… guest speaker!

“He is actually giving the girls a pep talk like he would do the football players in the locker room,” Kim Nicewonder, executive director of the Miss Virginia USA® and Miss Virginia Teen USA® State Pageant told the Washington Post. “What’s kind of interesting is that his pep talks that he’s used to doing in the locker room, he’s taking it in a little different direction this year and he’s going to be giving a pep talk to the Miss Virginia USA® contestants before they compete in the final night.”

“This is a pep talk on stage, in a glamorous evening gown instead of a football jersey, and he will be presenting his pep talk to a group of beautiful, good-smelling women rather than dirty stinky sweaty football players.”

Beamer reportedly committed to attending the pageant as a motivational speaker months ago. Outside of his speech, Beamer will answer questions and hand out special trophies to participants.

The main event is Sunday, November 20th, the day after Virginia Tech and Notre Dame play on Saturday, November 19th. The pageant is being held at the Moss Arts Center on Virginia Tech’s campus with preliminaries on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.

Nicewonder said tickets are already on sale for one heck of an opportunity.

“If anyone wants to mingle with [Beamer] and see him in a more glamorous atmosphere,” Nicewonder said.

When asked if she had his speech, Nicewonder said she sadly doesn’t. However, she did discuss what she thinks the former head coach will talk about.

“It’ll probably be very similar to how he motivates the football players,” she guessed. “I can say I’ve never been in the locker room when he’s given those speeches, but it’s very similar: keeping your confidence, doing your best, stepping out there and believing in yourself. It should be interesting to see what he’s going to say.”

Let’s just say I can’t imagine Beamer talking to the beauty pageant contestants like this.
