A documentary series focusing on three high school seniors on their path to the college football program of their choice titled QB1: Beyond The Lights will begin streaming on Verizon’s go90 network on February 15.

The title of the 10-part documentary series clearly takes its inspiration from Friday Night Lights fame. That’s not by accident, as Peter Berg is producing the series. Berg was the director for the 2004 film adaptation of Friday Night Lights starring Billy Bob Thornton. Berg was also the creator of the TV series by the same now starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton and more.

You can’t just launch a documentary series like this on a network you are trying to grow without having some reason to have an audience tune in. That problem will hopefully be solved by focusing the story on a couple of high-profile Class of 2017 recruits. Ohio State-bound Tate Martell and Georgia-bound Jake Fromm are the stars of the documentary, which will also feature Wake Forest commit Tayvon Bowers.

The three recruits spent their senior season of high school football being followed around by cameras for the series.

The go90 network is available to Verizon customers without risking data charges. This is not the first foray into sports programming on the network, though. Verizon customers can get a free mobile subscription to NBA League Pass with the network. This is, however, the most noteworthy attempt at original sports programming for go90.
