The Georgetown Hoyas have been about as bad as any team in Division 1 this season, currently sitting at a 6-22 on the season amidst an 18 game losing streak for the team.
The Hoyas have yet to win a game in the Big East conference this season with an 0-17 conference record just one year after miraculously making the NCAA tournament after winning their conference tournament.
This has led to a ton of questions about head coach Patrick Ewing’s future with the program, but Athletic Director Lee Reed released a statement Wednesday in support of the head coach going forward.

“As a university with high standards and expectations for both academic and athletic excellence, we all share the disappointment of a difficult season.”
“In this ever-evolving landscape of collegiate athletics we are committed to Coach Ewing, and we are working with him to evaluate every aspect of the men’s basketball program and to make the necessary changes for him to put us back on the path to success for next year.”
“Coach Ewing’s dedication, as well as his in last year’s BIG EAST Tournament, is a testament to his leadership. This gives us confidence that he can strengthen our program going forward.”
This statement has been met with a ton of criticism around the college basketball world as many believe that the results Georgetown has been putting out this season are simply not good enough.
Remember when thousands of Georgetown students and alums signed an online petition to oust Craig Esherick after going 13-15 in 2004?

Y'all wanna see a college athletic department that has kneecapped itself for well over a decade because it keeps hiring people it can't fire, for sentimental reasons? Here's one https://t.co/ARAD9KFN2s

Ewing has addressed the concerns of his job security recently, saying “Of course, I want to be back here, but in this position, in this job, whatever happens, will happen.”
Aside from last season where the Hoyas got extremely hot and somehow won the Big East Tournament, Ewing’s tenure with Georgetown has been an utter failure to this point. He holds a record of just 68-81 in his five years with the program.
While Ewing is obviously beloved by Georgetown faithful from his time as a player, it seems that the once-powerful basketball program is certainly hitting a low point under his watch.
