At the Georgia Bulldogs’ football spring game in April, the rapper Ludacris was reportedly paid $65,000 to perform for fifteen minutes. That’s about $4,333.33 per minute.

Over a month later, the school’s athletic director Greg McGarity apologized to the athletic association’s board of directors for agreeing to pay Ludacris $65,000. On top of the $65K, Ludacris was given liquor and condoms, which McGarity also apologized for.

“Few things in my professional life have bothered me more than this situation,” McGarity said.

The three-time Grammy award winner ended up performing for fewer than 15 minutes in front of the 93,000 fans at the spring game. McGarity admitted in his apologize that more attention should’ve been given to the situation and contract before it was agreed to.

Jere Morehead, the President of the University of Georgia, stated the contraction and its terms should’ve been looked at closer because there were some that should’ve been removed. Included in the agreement.

  • One loaf of whole grain bread, organic creamy peanut butter and organic grape or strawberry jelly.
  • One box of Fruit Roll-Ups.
  • One bottle of red wine.
  • One bottle of white wine.
  • Six Hanes large white T-shirts.
  • One Crest rechargeable toothbrush and Crest toothpaste.
  • One box of Trojan Magnum condoms.

A WHOLE box Magnum condoms! Can you imagine you’re the intern who is given this assignment?

The Athens-Banner Herald reported some interesting quotes from the board meeting and McGarity’s apology:

“I do want to take this opportunity to apologize to our board for mistakes we made with certain aspects of the details of an entertainment agreement,” McGarity said. “There are no reruns in life so we need to turn the page, learn from our mistakes and do everything we can to make sure errors of this nature do not reoccur.”

If the school ended up landing solid recruits thanks to the rapper, the program could end up making the money back quickly. However, if the $65,000 dollar experiment didn’t end up helping the school in the long term, McGarity could be apologizing for a long time.

“We didn’t pay attention to details as much as we should have,” McGarity said. “That’s my responsibility, regardless of who signs it.”
