On Saturday, the Georgia Southern Eagles lost 28-21 at home to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, and they fired head coach Chad Lunsford (who had been there since 2017) not long afterwards. But maybe the most notable thing that happened around that game was senior defensive tackle Gavin Adcock making headlines for his pre-game chugging of a beer on top of a moving bus:
Erk I’m sorry for this foolery, excuse me but what the fuck is this? Who singing the valley song? This man is swag surfing the bus and get a stone cold Steve hammer beer pass and chugged it flawlessly. Before the football game. Wow. pic.twitter.com/yoeBG6oc6X

Interestingly enough, the quoted Instagram reel there is from @barstoolsouthern, and Adcock describes himself as a “’21 BARSTOOL ATHLETE” in his Twitter bio. So this received at least some level of sharing/endorsement from Barstool Sports. But it didn’t go over too well with the general world, and that led to this apology from Adcock Monday:
I love this place with a deep passion! Always Hail Southern!! GATA !!💙🦅 pic.twitter.com/tY3Zu5dssX

And along with that, Adcock was suspended “indefinitely ” by Jared Benko, Georgia Southern’s director of athletics. And this is certainly an interesting event, as Adcock’s stunt attracted maybe more attention than anything else from that game. But it apparently didn’t go over well with Benko or the administration.
