If Northwestern’s men’s basketball team is going to continue to ride a wave of success this upcoming season, Julia Louis-Dreyfus hopes the focus can remain more on the players than on her along the way.

The star of Veep and former Seinfeld actress will no doubt continue to support the Wildcats as long as her son Charlie is on the team, but she does hope the cameras will stay pointed away from her rather than potentially have the TV star steal the spotlight.

“The whole thing was just [mind-blowing] — we couldn’t believe any of it,” says the five-time Veep Emmy winner about the squad’s winning ways. “It’s such a good team, they’re such great kids, and my son’s having a gas, so, I mean, what more could you ask for?” Louis-Dreyfus answers her own question: “I wish they hadn’t put me on the Jumbotron so much because you’re really there just as a mom!”

There is something to like about a celebrity getting so much enjoyment out of watching their kids perform in whatever it is they happen to excel in. The flip side, of course, is celebrities will all too often become the story themselves without doing anything other than be a proud parent sitting in the stands with the rest of the parents and fans.

But what better way to get fans cheering than to see a familiar face they know and love from TV on the big screen, and then realize she is there to support your team? It comes with the territory of being a celebrity and a parent, but you just have to take it in stride. Or, if you are Selena Meyer, you capitalize on the attention at any possible opportunity.
