Kevin Sumlin has been a head coach. at three major FBS programs. But now an HBCU program might be interested in bringing him on for his next head coaching gig.
Fox 26 KRIV Sports Director Mark Berman reports that Prairie View A&M has reached out to Sumlin to gauge his interest in their head football coach role, which is available because head coach Eric Dooley submitted his resignation earlier this week.
Prairie View A&M (@PVAMUPanthers) officials are in the midst of their search for their next head coach and according to college football sources they have contacted Kevin Sumlin to gauge his interest in becoming the Panthers next head coach.

Sumlin, who worked his way up as an assistant at programs like Wisconsin, Purdue, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma, broke out thanks to his stint as head coach of the Houston Cougars. After going 35-17 in four seasons, including a 12-1 finish in 2011, he was hired to take over the Texas A&M program.
Sumlin’s teams performed well, usually finishing with 8 or 9 wins, but he never quite lived up to the hype of the role. He was fired after six seasons despite going 51-26.
From there he was hired to be the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats but things never got off the ground there and he was fired during his third season, finishing with a 9-20 record there.
No word on how interested, if at all, Sumlin would be in the Prarie View gig, but there were certainly some strong takes about the possibility on social media from those in the college football world.
This would be huge https://t.co/m9QpCN41OF

We’ll see if anything comes of it as Sumlin remains an interesting coach in the mix. We haven’t heard from him since his time at Arizona ended, but perhaps he’ll find a fresh start here or elsewhere.
