The biggest question coming into this season for the Ole Miss Rebels is who will take the place of quarterback Matt Corral?

When Lane Kiffin was asked who is in the lead between returning backup Luke Altmyer and incoming transfer Jaxson Dart, Kiffin only offered this response: “They’re both even,” Kiffin said on Wednesday, says Ole Miss insider Brad Logan.

Altmyer was a true freshman last year who just threw for 192 yards and one touchdown in five appearances last year for the Rebels. However, he has been in Kiffin’s system for over a year which may give him an edge in this quarterback battle.

Dart, who is a transfer out of USC, threw for 1,353 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. So he may have more experience at the position than Altmyer, which may explain why the race between the two is so close or maybe Kiffin doesn’t want to tip his hand before kickoff Saturday against Troy.

Both quarterbacks will have big shoes to fill. Over his last two years as a starter for the Rebels, Corral threw for over 7,000 yards and 49 touchdowns combined in 2020 and 2021.

Not to mention his running ability and leadership qualities which will be missed and hard to replace but if one person knows quarterback talent, it’s Lane Kiffin.
