Legendary head coach Lou Holtz spent 11 seasons coaching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and became one of the most iconic coaches in the program’s storied history. But apparently, former head coach Brian Kelly was uninterested in hearing from Holtz during his time at Notre Dame.

In a video shared by Johnny Congdon, Holtz revealed that he made several attempts to reach out to Kelly via letter while he was at Notre Dame, and the former Irish head coach ignored every single one of them.

“I wrote Brian Kelly maybe 8 positive letters during his time at Notre Dame, and I go to the mailbox every day hoping I’m going to find an answer. He never responded to one of them,” Holtz said. “But that’s his choice. I answered every letter that came into Notre Dame. … But Brian Kelly didn’t believe in that.”

Kelly is no longer at Notre Dame, leaving the program to become the next head coach of the LSU Tigers. Holtz is confident Kelly will be successful at his next stop, but he’s got a little warning about his new schedule.

“I’m sure he’ll be very successful at LSU – he’s been [successful] everywhere,” Holtz said. “But he’s going to find out he’s not going to be playing Toledo, he’s not going to be playing Marshall. This conference is a little bit different.”

Meanwhile, Notre Dame is now under the leadership of new head coach Marcus Freeman. Hopefully, Freeman answers Holtz’s letters.
