LSU Ole Miss Soccer Fight

The Ole Miss Rebels and the LSU Tigers women’s soccer teams played an incredible and competitive SEC Tournament women’s soccer match on Sunday afternoon as the match between the two rivals was decided in penalty kicks after the two teams were tied 0-0 after regulation and two overtime periods.

Ole Miss won the penalty shootout and advanced in the tournament, but the penalty kicks were far from the most interesting thing to happen in the game as a wild fight broke out between the bitter conference rivals.

Toward the end of the second overtime period, Ole Miss’ Ramsey Davis seemed to take exception with a steal attempt from LSU’s Maya Gordon. As Gordon tried to take the ball from her, Davis grabbed her by the waist promoting Gordon to retaliate with a punch. Davis quickly punched back, starting an all-out brawl.

Gordon and Davis were quickly separated after the confrontation, but then LSU senior Rammie Noel ran across the field to join the altercation.

As a result of the fight, all three players – Noel, Davis, and Gordon – were given red cards and ejected from the game. They will also be suspended for their next game. Davis will miss Ole Miss’ SEC Tournament match against South Carolina while Noel and Gordon will miss LSU’s opening-round match of the NCAA Tournament.

It’s certainly a wild way to start the NCAA soccer postseason and another chapter in a fierce rivalry.
