It’s not uncommon for athletes to put on a good amount of weight during the offseason. Sometimes it’s good weight added, and sometimes it’s bad weight. In the case of LSU wide receiver Travin Dural, it’s the latter.

Dural blamed eating Popeyes fried chicken for his 30-pound weight gain during the offseason.

The 22-year-old went into detail regarding the weight gain with WWLTV’s Glenn Guilbeau:

“Yeah, Popeyes was putting a lot of weight on me,” the fifth-year senior wide receiver from Breaux Bridge said this week, skillfully transferring the blame.

His mother, Tamika Dural, noticed an obvious change.

“I went home one day, and my mom was like, ‘Man, you look stuffed,’” Dural said. “So, that’s when I knew it was time for change. I was almost 230 pounds in the spring and I played at 203 last year.”

Dural told WWLTV that another part of the weight gain was because of the hamstring surgery he had before Thanksgiving. It left Dural unable to run, including in spring.

But he was able to slim down, after Cam Cameron got on him about it. He also switched from fried to grilled chicken, as he told WWLTV:

“I stayed away from the Popeyes and the home cooking and started eating salads and started eating a lot less and drinking a lot more water,” he said. “When we started back working out and running after spring practice in April, the weight just disappeared. It was the first time I ever had to worry about nutrition. Before, I was always running and always active, so I just never gained weight.”

Surely that’s a mistake that the young wideout won’t make again.
