Matthew McConaughey’s newest film Gold comes out Friday. It tells the story of a precious metals inspector named Kenny Wells in the 1980s who heads to Indonesia to attempt to strike it rich. But what’s most interesting about McConaughey’s character here isn’t necessarily his story or personality.

It’s his hair.

As he told the Austin American-Statesman, the inspiration for the do came from none other than West Virginia football coach Dana Holgorsen.

“But you know where it really came from? I haven’t told anyone else this. I went to the hair lady, said, ‘It’s this guy’s hair,’ and handed her a picture of Dana Holgorsen,” McConaughey said, laughing uproariously.

Or, as writer Joe Gross described the haircut before dropping that quote on the unsuspecting world:

“But what really jumps out at you is his hair, a comb-over with that sort of half-halo thing about the back that some men get. It is … not the most flattering look. It is extremely unexpected to see on a movie star.”

Take a gander for yourself. You’ll never be able to un-see it:

There’s a lot more in the piece besides that important nugget, but I will forever associate this film with Dana Holgorsen from now on, which has probably ruined the movie for me.

What might otherwise ruin the film for me is its 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is likely what critics would have awarded Holgorsen, given how West Virginia’s season ended against Miami.

If you are a fan of Matthew McConaughey, and you want to see him look like West Virginia’s crazy head football coach on screen, then Gold is the film for you.
