After going 8-4 last season (including a Sun bowl victory over the Miami Hurricanes), the Washington Cougars entered the 2016 college football season with 68 votes in the AP top-25 poll, essentially ranking them 29th in the country. So, right there in the top-25 discussion and with high hopes on the season.

Well, they lost to in-state rival and FCS school Eastern Washington to start the season, and they followed that up with a loss at Boise State. And head coach Mike Leach isn’t very happy about their 0-2 start.

In a press conference on Monday, Leach went on a rant about the state of the football team, and the rant featured many great quotes:

Right now, we have the atmosphere of a JC softball game. I mean, that’s what we are: a JC softball team. It’s not like you win or lose, it’s like the team that wins is the one that has the most fun. You know, crap like that. You know, all this stuff that’s contaminated America where they give every kid a trophy and they don’t keep score in little league anymore.

You know if you want to be nice to them and all this kumbaya crap, I mean, that doesn’t work.

This business of, you know, pretending we’re playing hard and we’re not, pretending we’re playing as hard as our opponent and we’re not, there’s going to be a price to pay.

I’ve got receivers running routes that don’t even resemble anything we teach. We don’t tuck the ball and go straight upfield. We do all these stupid moves. We run out of bounds more than any team in the country. We’re the easiest team in the country to tackle. Defensively, we don’t run our feet on contact. We don’t on offense either. We don’t like to run and hit, and this is a game for running and hitting.

Their life’s gonna change as they know it. And it’s going to change as they know it for the rest of the season.

The Cougars get the Idaho Vandals (1-1) at home next, a team that just lost to Washington 59-14. If Washington State loses that one too, expect another hilarious Leach rant.
