Mike Leach

The No. 8 Washington State Cougars were shellacked 37-3 by unranked Cal on Friday night in Berkeley. Wazzu entered the night 6-0 with College Football Playoff hopes, and left the night with a 34-point loss that included seven turnovers (while Cal turned the ball over zero times).

It would’ve been an embarrassing performance for just about any FBS school, and given what was on the line for Wazzu? Yikes.

So, you had to figure the Mike Leach postgame press conference would be entertaining, and it most certainly was!

Leach went off about how the Cougars’ defense was “terrible” and that the team was “a bunch of pathetic frontrunners.”

They were terrible. They were terrible. What game did you watch?

The defense had to play for eight minutes the first half, and Cal scored whatever points they did. And then their running point over there, they treated him like an All-Star.

No, our defense did not play a good game.

There’s no bright spot. We were pathetic. We were a bunch of pathetic frontrunners.

It’s hard to argue with any of that.
