On Sunday, the Clemson Tigers softball team fell in a historic upset to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Clemson lost to their ACC foe in a 7-5 softball slugfest. The Wolfpack’s win was historic, as they hadn’t defeated a Top 25 team in two years!

The Wolfpack softball team boasted about the win on more than one occasion. They posted the end of the game, which sealed it up with a force out at the third base.

NC State has struggled mightily this season. Even after the win, the Wolfpack is just 16-28 this season. They’re 12-10 at home in Raleigh but have drawn a 4-18 record in road/neutral games. NC State is just 1-13 on the road this year and ranks 129th in the RPI.
Clemson, by comparison, ranks 14th in the RPI with a 40-5 record. So this is a stunning upset by every measure.
NC State jumped out in front with a four-run first inning. Amanda Hasler and Hannah Goodwin took Tiger pitcher Regan Spencer deep with a pair of home runs. Clemson would answer with four runs of their own in the top third. Star Valerie Cagle smoked a three-run homer to left field, and the Tigers later scored on a SAC fly.
NC State outfielder Katlyn Pavlick broke the tie with a three-run home run later in the game. The Tigers tacked on one more run but ultimately fell in the historic softball upset.
