Football season may still be months away, but if you are desperate for a fleet-footed runner dodging would-be obstacles on the way to his ultimate goal, look no further than N.C. State baseball coach Elliott Avent.

Avent vehemently disagreed with umpire Scott Higgins’s called ball four, and was not shy about letting him know it. Not only were fans treated to one of the best baseball meltdowns in a while, they also witnessed a truly incredible spin-move when one of the other umpires tried to intervene. Avent was not about to let an interloper interfere with him telling Higgins exactly how he felt about that call.

Avent may be 60 years old, but he possess the agility and foot speed of a much younger man. ESPN’s Baseball Tonight even had a little fun with the move, overlaying the commentary from the most famous spin move in recent memory — Braxton Miller’s from last September’s contest with Virginia Tech.

This display obviously got Avent tossed from the game, but it paid off. Facing elimination, N.C. State defeated Costal Carolina 8-1 and will now play in a winner-take-all game Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, they will again need to pull out a victory without their coach. Avent’s tirade earned him a two-game suspension, effective immediately.
