It would be safe to say that Nebraska football coach Scott Frost came into the 2021 college football season on the hot seat. It would be even safer to say that, following Saturday’s 30-22 loss to Illinois, Frost’s already-hot seat is now scorching.
While Frost certainly had an unenviable task when he took over as head coach of the Huskers in 2018, the 12-20 record he’s amassed in three seasons hasn’t really inspired much confidence around Lincoln that he can push the program back in the direction it once was in. Not to mention that Frost and the program are currently under NCAA investigation for improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games. Short of an epic turnaround following this week’s performance, it seems very unlikely the Cornhuskers will be able to emerge from their Big Ten schedule with too much success.

And while we’re still technically in “Week 0” in college football, plenty of people are looking at the writing on the wall for Frost.
Scott Frost took a team that won ZERO games and got them to a non-absurd national champs claim in two seasons. He went to Nebraska (one of the great programs in CFB history) and in four years they’re basically Purdue. Not dunking, just saying no one knows anything in CFB

Scott Frost is now 12-21 (.364) at Nebraska.
His predecessor, Mike Riley, who the Huskers paid $6.2 million to leave, was 19-19 (.500) in Lincoln.
Then they paid $3 million to UCF for Frost.

Scott Frost is Jim Harbaugh with a less-talented roster.

Scott Frost would need to go 37-1 at Nebraska over his next 38 games to match Jim Harbaugh’s current record at Michigan, for those curious how differently the two hires have gone.

Nebraska fans shouldn’t be mad at Scott Frost. You had to try. He had to take the job. Sometimes it just doesn’t work. The person you should be mad at is Bill Moos for giving him a contract extension after two years for no good reason

Nebraska tries to pick up the pieces next weekend at home against Fordham and then follows that up by hosting Buffalo. In theory, Nebraska should be 2-1 after that stretch. But if they somehow aren’t, there’s pretty much no way Frost even makes it to the next Big Ten contest. You better believe there are a lot of people in Lincoln looking over that extended contract and wondering what it’ll take to make the buyout happen.
