A lot of marketing is just trying to figure out what the kids are into these days, right? Well apparently someone at Nebraska heard that the kids liked DJ Khaled and decided to design and display a gigantic banner featuring the face of the record producer/Snapchat star/purveyor of motivational quotes.

The banner also included the number 350, to recognize the Cornhuskers’ streak of 350 straight sellouts. It was complemented by two smaller banners reading “ANOTHER ONE,” which is a Khaled catchphrase.

This seems pretty cool… until you realize there’s no good explanation for it.

DJ Khaled did not go to Nebraska, he’s not from Nebraska, and given how much he likes jet skiing, there’s little reason to think he would even like Nebraska. Yeah, “another one,” applies to your sellout streak, but it also applies to every single streak of anything ever.

Here’s the explanation Nebraska magazine Hail Varsity got from Pierce Georlett, who runs social media for The Iron N, the Nebraska student section:

“We wanted to have a banner that appealed to the younger generation, like a freshman in college or a senior in high school,” Georlett said. “We wanted to make something that got them excited to join The Iron N, stand on our shoulders and take it to the next level after [the seniors] are gone.”

The Hail Varsity article explains just how much energy and effort went into this banner. Members of The Iron N began brainstorming ideas back in June, then traced the entire freaking thing by hand. It took 30-40 hours of tracing. For a banner that doesn’t even make sense.

Anyway, the students managed to display the banner without any trouble, and, maybe most importantly, DJ Khaled himself approved.

Maybe that makes it worth it.
