It doesn’t take a whole lot for a statement to turn into bulletin board material. The worst part is when a non-essential player says something to get the other team riled up. When Oklahoma Sooners backup quarterback Austin Kendall decided to comment on Ohio State’s defense, it immediately became national news. What was he thinking?

As two top 15 programs are about to square off this Saturday, both the Sooners and Buckeyes don’t need any more ammunition to get ready for this potentially legendary affair.

Austin Kendall isn’t too worried about the Buckeyes though, as he made this comment to Sooners Sports TV:

“I think they really have a very basic defense, I think we can go out there…I mean [starting quarterback] Baker [Mayfield], he’ll light them up. I’m really looking forward to it. If my number is called, I think I can do the same. I’m really looking forward to the game. It’s going to be really exciting.”

While Kendall may think the Buckeyes defense is basic, I decide to make him a list of things that are a little more basic than the “Silver Bullets” D.

  • If Drake is your favorite rapper, you’re probably basic.
  • If you like it when Starbucks spells your name wrong on your coffee, you’re probably basic.
  • If nothing makes you happier than an episode of Modern Family, you’re probably basic.

These are all infinitely more basic then what he mentioned, trust me. Buckeye players are none too happy about Kendall’s comments either as shown by their twitter posts.

The best part of it all may be his family’s ties to the Buckeyes themselves. Kendall was raised in Waxhaw, North Carolina, but his parents are from Worthington, Ohio, a ten minute drive from Ohio State’s campus.

His dad even admitted to Tulsa World that until this year when until his son was on the team, he was cheering for the Buckeyes. He even had been to the last few Ohio State national title games.

This tweet is probably the proverbial nail in Kendall’s coffin.

So this begs the question, is Kendall a sleeper agent for Ohio State? He very well could’ve been sent in by Urban Meyer to take down the Sooners from within. I wouldn’t put it past him at all.

This put an already compelling duel on a completely different level.
