Oklahoma softball Oklahoma’s Tiare Jennings (23) celebrates a home run in the first inning during a college softball game between the California Golden Bears and the University of Oklahoma Sooners at the Norman Regional of NCAA softball tournament at Marita Hynes Field in Norman, Okla., Sunday, May, 21, 2023.

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team has undoubtedly been the best in the country. They dominated yet again on Sunday and are approaching an absurd NCAA record.

They came into their matchup against the California Golden Bears on Sunday in the NCAA Regional Final with a 45-game winning streak. Most of their wins this year have come in dominant fashion, and this game was no exception.

Their offense took control of this game very early, recording 14 runs in the first three innings thanks to six home runs. This tied an NCAA Tournament record.

Oklahoma would tack on two more runs before the game ended after five innings. This marked the 27th run-rule victory of the season for the Sooners.

This victory has Oklahoma’s program approaching the NCAA record for the most win streak. A win in their next game would tie the 1996-17 Arizona Wildcats’ streak of 47 games in a row.

It would be the second sport that Oklahoma holds the NCAA record for the longest win streak. The football program won 47 straight games from 1953-57.

Oklahoma is looking to win its third consecutive National Championship. The Sooners hold the best record (54-1) in all of Division 1 softball, so they are definitely the clear favorites to win it all.

They will now face off against the No. 16 ranked Clemson Tigers in the NCAA Super Regional next weekend after their Regional Final victory over Auburn.
