Some tragic news emerged on Thursday regarding former Ole Miss and current Florida International player Luke Knox.

Knox passed away at the age of 22, per an announcement from FIU on their social media page.

No immediate cause of death has been revealed at this time. Luke was the younger brother of Buffalo Bills star tight end Dawson Knox.

On Thursday, Florida International head coach Mike MacIntyre released a statement regarding Luke’s tragic passing, speaking about the passion Knox had both on and off the football field.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend Luke Knox,” MacIntyre said in the statement. “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident. Luke’s family is special to me, and they will continually be in my heart and prayers during this difficult time.”

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott also discussed the matter in a press conference, expressing his sadness not only for his player Dawson, but for the entire Knox family.

“Our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time. We are right there with him in supporting him and his family. It was very tragic news that I woke up to this morning. We love him and we support him.”

Many around the football world are echoing McDermott’s sentiments in offering their best wishes to the Knox family in this difficult time.

Luke Knox spent four seasons at Ole Miss from 2018-2021, where he played both linebacker and tight end during his time with the program.

He then transferred to FIU, and unfortunately never got the chance to take the field in a game for the program due to this saddening news.
