P.J. Fleck is attempting the impossible.

The Western Michigan Broncos have undergone a complete transformation over the past four seasons from a one-win squad in 2013 to back-to-back bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015. This season, the Broncos started 3-0, including a decisive win 34-10 over Lovie Smith’s Illinois Fighting Illini and a nailbiting victory at Northwestern. With early success, Coach Fleck is inviting neighboring fans on the bandwagon.

With the Broncos set to face Georgia Southern, Fleck recommends taking in all the Michigan-based teams this weekend.

“Go to Ann Arbor and East Lansing in the daytime, go get your daytime fix and then come to us at night,” Fleck said. “You can get a double-header. It’ll be perfect. Even if you’re not a fan of Western Michigan, come over and watch another football game.”

Fleck said those Michigan State and Michigan fans attending the Broncos game are welcome to convert into Broncos fans for the night.

“Whether you’re a Wolverine or you’re a Sparty, that’s fine, you can all be Broncos, we will take you. Come on down and see the night game.”

The Broncos coach has every right to proud of his vastly improved program and attempting to draw in fans from same-state teams is a smart ploy. Now is the time to convert, as Western Michigan is becoming a rising team in the Mid-American Conference. Fleck’s call-to-action might have some return – although converting Michigan and Michigan State fans permanently is a fruitless endeavor
